Gandy
2017
The project is basedn on “Like Gandy, like son” installation from 2017 it evolves around an on tick* notebook from a local pub/grocery store in a Bulgarian village. It is somewhat of a journal of everyday life in this particular place but at the same time it can be an analogue for any small town store in the country. From the information within this notebook we can see the names or nicknames of the regular clients on tick, sometimes their purchases and preferences, and most importantly their connections to one another and status in the society of the village.
We focus on a person named “Gandy” who appears 36 times in this book containing around 1360 entries. This is approximately about 3% of all ticks in the book. The project portrays Gandy in every single tick purchase trying to understand this micro universe. And trust here is viewed as unstable and highly dynamic material, which is tested with every new appearance of the client at the store. This all comes to new level of continuity when from the list of ticks comes the name “the son of Gandy”.
