PATH THROUGH THE PATHWAYS
Rene Char
Five panels of stained glass, built from aerial photographs of the Buinovtsi forest taken in 1990 – images made not to be admired but to map and control the land. Sedevchev remakes them in the old language of stained glass, fired in oxide pigment and joined with lead, so that light passes through. Photography and cartography have been bound since the camera’s invention, first serving territorial conquest and colonial control, only later turning toward radical mapping. Here that lineage reverses: the document becomes a window, the surveyed forest luminous, remembered rather than recorded – resting in the tension between what is visible and what is lost.
